As soon as Cathy mentioned roof I saw the ridge tiles. It's a ventilator tile that sits on a ridge tile.

Here's another specialised battery. What was this for?

I would say its to power a vintage portable valved radio.

[Stanley]

Not exactly Ian but I am giving it to you. At one time the early valve sets needed two sources of power. The low tension was supplied by a single lead/acid cell and the high tension was supplied by a dry battery with multiple tappings for adjustment. This gave up to 120V.
Now we need another object.....
