In my experience, dogs shed their own weight in hair annually, Jack Russells 2X!
I shall be in the shed starting on the journey towards 4 crankshafts. With a bit of luck a set of castings should arrive today and a gallon of vinegar....
Susan visits this afternoon and I need to shop for the veggies that go with my chicken.... Peppers and cherry tomatoes.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I started on the task of doing the initial clean-up on each of the blanks. I decided to use an old fashioned Wimet carbide tipped tool to see how I got on. The rest of my time was spent adjusting feeds and speeds and managing swarf. The image is of the second blank when it came to knocking off time after an hour in the shed. I am ready to reverse it and clean up what remains but that's for tomorrow. I am looking for breakfast now.

Morning
Its bright this morning and a little warmer. There is a little rain forecast around lunchtime, otherwise a dry cloudy day. I am at art in Haslingden this morning, followed by a quick lunch. Then we shall set off to Dorset. We are staying overnight in Gloucester in a Premier Inn, but eating at our niece’s this evening. We would have all gone out for a meal but her labrador had an operation only a week ago and cannot be left. I see the forecast for Dorset has improved, fingers crossed that it doesn’t rain too much, we have packed for all weathers, wet, dry, warm, cool, windy. We have never been to Dorset so are looking forward to it. Have a good day all

I carried on with cleaning the blanks up and finished up with four blanks clean and ready for turning to size. I abandoned Ideas of cooking my chicken after oversleeping. I think that was the right decision. I am ready for breakfast now.

Morning
What a warm night down here, it was still over 20 degrees at 8.30 pm and 17 this morning. Yesterday was mainly dry with occasional heavy showers and temperatures of 23 degrees. Today’s forecast is good but rain for the next three day's of varying amounts. It was nice to see our niece and husband last night and Sarah had also invited her Dad, our brother in law. He is approaching 90 now but still looks like he did in his 70s . He walks about 4 miles a day, usually going with Sarah when she walks her labrador
Todays plan is to enjoy the drive down to the cottage we are staying in for next week. Its a cross country drive and we plan on calling at Frome and wherever takes our fancy. We really do not know the area so it should be interesting for us. Have a good day all

Today we're meeting with some old friends for lunch. I've known him since 1976 and her since about 1977. It's a friendship where it doesn't need to be reinforced, we could (and have) left it a couple of years between seeing each other but we just pick up where we left off. I'm breaking my diet especially! Chips will be on the menu.

Had a really good hour or so wandering about. We watched Peace fire up, and everything put in motion. How those people ever worked with all the clatter going on I’m amazed, and the whole place was like an accident waiting to happen, health and safety would have died a death seeing that in those days. Peace is being fired up again tomorrow 1pm-3.30pm well worth a visit.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I declared an end to muck shifting and cleaned all the rust dust off Mrs Harrison. Then, just for a change I took the big 3 jaw SC chuck off and put my Taylor chuck on for the next stage, turning the blanks to 2" diameter, the major size needed for the crankshafts. I had difficulty establishing a good chip with the old fashioned Wimet tooling, the main problem is that my lathe is too light to handle heavy cuts and can only do it with the perfect geometry of indexable tips. The consequence was that I just managed to almost finish one blank. I shall do better tomorrow now I am set up. I am after my breakfast now!

Morning
This is a very pretty cottage in a very quiet rural setting up a grassy lane. It is set in the large garden, mainly grassland, of the owner, probably a ‘granny’ home originally . The owners house is a beautiful thatched cottage. Yesterday was beautiful, today a little rain is forecast plus tomorrow morning but the rest of the week looks good. Today as it is due to tain we are visiting Thomas Hardy’s home and Dorchester. Have a good day all

Today I was pulling up dead and dying weeds. I'm not sure what the big ones were but they took some killing. It reminded me of the bog bodies dug up from a bog where they'd been killed in numerous ways. However weed killer and boiling water were my preferred methods.

Morning
Despite the forecast it was an ok day yesterday with just one really heavy shower around 2.00. Today is chilly but dry and sunny. We are out for lunch and investigating the villages locally plus a renovated old railway station that was built in the 1860s and closed one hundred years later. It is now a museum . The trees are beginning to change colour which looks lovely with the sun reflecting off them. Have a good day all.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Today we are off to Bressingham Steam Museum to a model train show (to celebrate 200 years etc). They also have a garden centre there and as described by the name, a Steam Museum. We went there decades ago and had a footplate ride on the Oliver Cromwell. We have a really good garden centre in Thetford so it is hard sometimes not to feel disappointed with other centres, we also have a massive Notcutts garden centre in Norwich which made me a little disappointed at the one near my daughter close to Normanton.

I hope you had a good day Julie.....
Here I shall be in the shed first thing making even more swarf as I move slowly towards 4 new crankshafts chopped out of the solid. I shall take a view later about the rest of the day's activities but it looks like another fine day if a bit chilly!

Morning
Lovely day yesterday, we did a couple of walks but declined tge steep hike up Hambleton Hill. The station and intended track at Shillingstone was interesting. So much restoration has taken place but oh so much more to do.
We stayed in Norfolk a couple of years ago Julie. We had a trip on the Broads and went up a windmill at Horsey , near a beach full of seals which we walked along. We went to , Theftford Forest Park we think and also to where there were remains of wartime army encampments. Was it the same place?, I can’t remember? We visited Thetford itself and went round the Dads Army Museum. After a discussion with the volunteers I donated some wartime cookery books to the museum that had belonged to Bobs and my Mums. I posted them down but was most disappointed that I never got an acknowledgement of receipt from them, so I don’t know if they ever arrived. I have to say I was a bit upset by this as the books meant a lot to us, but we were happy to donate them to a good cause.
This morning is 5 degrees with clear blue skies. Full sun and 15 degrees is forecast . We are going down to the coast today , famous for its fossils. Looking forward to it. Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Later.... I've just had my dinner and I am looking back at a very satisfactory morning. Apart from getting in a short walk and shopping I have cooked savoury cabbage as an extender of the veggies and cleaned up after myself. Pans put away and hob clean.
I have an order for castings from Stuarts outstanding and they have been a little remiss and not kept me up to date with the problem that is delaying dispatch. I emailed them on Saturday and this morning, on the first working day after receiving the mail I got a welcome and perfectly acceptable reply from a man called Andy. As I thought they are waiting for delivery of a casting.... I told him there was no rush (telling him why, I was making shafts out of the solid because I don't like their built-up ones....)
So I thanked him for responding quickly and I will not lose any sleep now worrying about delivery.
