Impressive link Tiz, photography has advanced so far in my lifetime. I predict we won't be using cameras as such, we will just project a beam into the air and pick up reflected images in our brain, saving the ones we like most. It struck me the other day that someone, somewhere, is working on a technology that will enable a submarine commander to view what is happening outside the hull on a screen..... Come to think, they probably have it now..... The concept of 'Battlespace Management' has been around for a long time and kept largely under wraps but it's a very important field.... Janet and Harry worked on it for years.

Barlick in Bloom's Community Action activity...

Lots of progress with gardening and tidy-up jobs round the town so far this weekend.

On Saturday, the volunteer team worked on several town centre areas including: Weeding/sweeping the Station Road car park, tidying up the 'Golden Triangle' bed next to the bus shelters, removing basal growth from Town Green trees, tidying up beds near the town centre toilets, weeding the setts at the front of the library and 'gapping up' beds with fresh plants.

Picture shows work underway on the the Golden Triangle next to Station Road's bus shelter.

Including 'Russian Vine', I think I'm told, Stanley. (Reds everywhere?!)

Bloom group has considered getting some of it grubbed up and start afresh, but that's an autumn job. May be able to sort out a quick trim though.

What caught my attention yesterday was the absence of five out of eight bespoke planters that we'd planted up ready for decorating Barnoldswick Beach. When I went to water yesterday evening, they'd done a flit! After a quick look round the town centre - and finding no trace - rang it in to the police on 101 and asked if anyone knew where they were on facebook.

That was when another bloom volunteer explained that she and other members of the team had thought they's look quite good on Fernlea Avenue and had shifted them...

I bought this next year's buildings & contents insurance this morning online. We had a good deal with Saga some years ago but they bumped up the price year by year, so then we switched to a much better deal with Co-op. Now they wanted £334 so I went on the CompareThe Market.com web site and put in all the details. I got a long list of quotes ranging from about £120 to £970 (!) and have now gone back to Saga for £163, a saving of 50% over my present Co-op quote. A new Co-op quote was more expensive than the Saga one. Of course the merry go round will continue next year and I'll be looking again!

Mrs Tiz has just pointed me to this BBC news put out 7 minutes ago:
"Andrea Leadsom is expected to pull out of the two-way contest to become the next Conservative Party leader and UK prime minister, the BBC understands. A source close to the energy minister said "the abuse has been too great". LINK
Abuse seems to be the norm now, unfortunately.

`Chimneys at a former Coventry brickworks demolished' BBC, 11th July 2016
"Chimneys at a former Coventry brickworks have been demolished by controlled explosion. Loud bangs could be heard before the stacks came tumbling down at the site on Stoney Stanton Road. They were the last remnants of the Webster Hemming & Sons brickworks in Foleshill."

When my friend Robert started collecting redundant chimneys he was seen as some kind of nut but he was right, they are an endangered species and the men who built and maintained them as well.
How pleasant is was to have a day doing nothing.....

Our Dan would have been 36 today. It was a Saturday back in 1980 and it was Airedale Hospital fun day. Keighley Brass Band heralded his arrival with "The Floral Dance" which they were playing from the lawn outside the maternity wing. It was a good pushing tune and always make me smile when I hear it, it's in my head now.

Sending a hug. ( I feel for you both)

I guess, having the privileged position of onlooker you may remember details like that...there could have been a brass band playing next to my pillow as I gave birth but I wouldn't have heard it..all I concentrated on was what the midwife was telling me to do...which I think involved the words "push" and "pant". Hubby was there but of no help at all...( in fact, I think I told him to "get lost" at one point...)

Thank you Maz.

I got all the abuse as well of course. It was a very surreal experience as the medical staff were cross dressed. Nurses were in theatre scrubs and the consultant gynecologist was dressed like a naughty French tart complete with suspenders and fishnets. Bed races around the perimeter road and a gala atmosphere, It was a lovely sunny day as well.

Those of you in the UK might like to consider signing this petition. No, it's not for a second referendum, it's to prevent the destruction of archaeological remains. The petition page is here: LINK and the summary is:
`Stop Destruction Of British Archaeology. Neighbourhood and Infrastructure Bill'
Britain has some of the most amazing and diverse archaeological remains in the world, however the new Neighbourhood Planning and Infrastructure Bill announced today puts all of this at risk, leading to the destruction of our past for good. The lack of surveys will inherently lead to this. The current Requirements that force developers to carry out archaeological and wildlife surveys before starting housing projects are to be abolished in the new Neighbourhood Planning and Infrastructure Bill. This will destroy archaeological sites and risk the industry that conducts surveys, excavation and preservation of our vital past. `Pre-commencement planning conditions are only imposed by local planning authorities where they are absolutely necessary.'

Are you SURE it wasn't YOU using the "gas"?

There was a similar thing in ICU when Febby was coming around after being on life support. Someone down yonder was being visited by a Clown in costume and I thought it would give hubby awful flashbacks...but he doesn't seem to remember, thank goodness. ( he remembers nothing of ICU in fact, which is good...cos it was horrible)

Thanks Tiz and no, we didn't know until we got there. Definitely not me on the gas Maz.

Were going for a romp around our hill today with bilberry picking on the way back, cotton grass will be out on the moor, it was starting to show last week, the sun is attempting to shine and we will have Dan with us regardless.

I think the rig is ground investigations in preparation for the Aldi development.

During the last couple of weeks there's been a lot of surveying going on with the sewers and culverts.

It's all change in that area, with all the buildings on the drill hall side of the road being revamped and the demolition work underway at Bankfield.

Could be an improvement David, a lot of tidying up is overdue in that area.
I'm making a conscious effort to adjust my living pattern towards what I will be experiencing next week. I don't think the students will want to have a 3AM start! What is surprising me is how easy it is to do this.
The fact that my washing machine had a brain fart yesterday and stopped in the middle of a washing cycle. I got round it by using another cycle. It may be that it is giving notice on one programme. I shall ignore it until I get next week done and dusted!

I had a chat with the rig operators yesterday.

They are indeed testing ground conditions in advance of development. The survey provides information for the design of appropriate foundations and samples are taken for testing to check for any contamination that may need to be dealt with (standard requirement for a brownfield site).

They commented that they hadn't found anything unexpected and that contamination appeared to be minimal. They are hitting bedrock around 5 metres down.

With a larger rig, they can sometimes be testing as much as 60 metres below the surface.

Here's the Bankfield demolition yesterday. The water tank beyond the boiler house is beginning to be revealed.
