I shall be in the shed early doors and then have a normal day doing as little as possible. At the moment I'm enjoying my new curtains from Dunelm......

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Susan told me I did good, she likes the quality and the lining.
I hope you have a nice day Sue, not too warm!

Back into the shed after effectively two days off so it was a matter of assessing where I was and what was the way forwards. I decided that the next job was to mount the castings on the finished plinth for fitting. That meant finding a piece of padding and sticking it on the base of an already oiled plinth. I did that and brought the plinth back into the kitchen for the glue to cure and then got my castings together and assessed them. I can mount the base and the bed on the plinth straight away but I need to put a final finish on the flywheel and the other castings before I move forwards so that and finishing the plinth will be tomorrow's job. Now for breakfast.

Later.... the fridge is defrosted and all the food back in. I have vacuumed round downstairs and I have a 40degree load of washing on the go. That's enough honest endeavour for one day!

I shall be in the shed early doors this morning doing useful things to my current engine. I think it's time the base went back on the plinth ready for more building and fitting. Later, after second sleep I shall be veggie shopping in the Square. I haven't decided on anything after that!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning effectively was the start of the final build. I started by trimming the rubber padding off the base of the plinth. Then I mounted the base on the plinth and screwed it down. Next I mounted the bed and screwed that down with 4 X 2BA bolts and then cleaned the crosshead slide and fitted the guides. My final move this morning was to lubricate and mount the crosshead in the slide. That's enough quiet careful work for this morning. I want my breakfast.

Morning
Monets garden was as beautiful as ever, no photos at the moment as they are on my camera and have to be uploaded. We got back about 7 , had a cuppa in the garden as it was a beautiful evening, then had a late tea. We were early to bed but once again were met by a hornet which must have come in before we closed all the windows at 8.30. There must be a nest nearby and we think it is probably in the old farm buildings. Yves would have got rid of it but there is no one there to do anything. We are not sure where the little monster is lurking and is somewhere still in the house
The plans today are not to do much after the 4 hour drive back yesterday afternoon. The forecast is warm and cloudy and at the moment we have a thick late August mist. In the afternoon Bob will fire up the pizza oven for tea this evening. Barbara and I will do the washing, ie put it in switch it on hang it out
i may try and dig the rest of my onions . The soil will be softer as apparently the rain storm we had the other day hit here as well to a limited extent and the water buts are now nearly full again. Have a good day all..
Oh yes, the new next door but one neighbours have moved in we think, there was definite chatter there yesterday evening.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I attended to the final fitting of the crankshaft in its bearings. That involved adjusting the bottom bearings for fit in the horns of the bed and reaming the installed bearings in line before fitting the shaft. Once the shaft was fitted I checked the clearance between the flywheel and the bed. The next step is to finish turn the flywheel, polish it and mount it on the shaft but that's for tomorrow.... I have done enough this morning and am looking for my breakfast now.....

One clear task this morning, refine the finish of the flywheel and mount it on the shaft using shaft grade Loctite 638. Now I want my breakfast....

Morning
The Breton festival yesterday was very good, we go every year but I would say this year it was the best ever. Its a festival that celebrates traditional farming methods with many of the old skills being demonstrated. The old farming machinery , often over a 100 years old is used having been carefully stored and maintained through out the year. We arrived just in time for the parade and stayed over two hours. It went on well into the evening with a bonfire, fireworks and a huge community meal with places for a few hundred set in a large tent. We have never stayed for that but it is quite something to see. The meal, a traditional tripe stew was cooked in extremely large vats throughout the day, being stirred by young men who often broke out in to song. Quite an atmosphere.
Today we are going to Paimpont in the Forest of Brocéliande. It is here that the Breton legend of Merlin is based. We are having lunch in a creperie and then doing a walk. As the forecast is 31 degrees we are having to modify the walk we wanted to do and will probably do one in the woods in the shade. Have a good day all.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I started by cleaning up the mill and the lathe, it couldn't be ignored any longer. Then I mounted the cylinder on the bed and set up the slitting saw in the VM. I cut the screwdriver slot in the piston which is how I screw the piston rod into the crosshead when I have drilled and tapped it 2BA. Doing that is my next job but that's for tomorrow.... Now I want my breakfast.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
Yesterday was very hot with beautiful blue skies. Too hot to walk far so we walked round the lake at Paimpont, a 4 km walk that is largely in the shade. On returning home about 5 we sat in the garden in the shade for a couple of hours. Whilst in the garden I heard people at our neighbours house. I don’t know if it has been sold or if it was the owners that we know. We shall see.
This morning is really thick mist with a forecast of cloud and 26 degrees. Thats the best of the weather over, from tomorrow rain is forecast every day for the next 8 days, though probably it will just be light showers. Hopefully it will clear today as I have towels to wash and some basics. This morning we are going for a short walk where two rivers meet as Bill wants to take some photos. This afternoon we are calling at Joanne and Pauls, probably out last visit as they are off on holiday on Friday. . Have a good day all

Morning
It was another beautiful day yesterday but I feel our last.We did a little shopping in the morning, a lot of washing and ironing between us and went to see Joanne and Paul in the afternoon. The rest of the day we sat in the garden and nattered, Bob cut the lawn , then we rounded the day off with a BBQ tea sat outside. Today is Barbara and Bills last day, where did the week go. We are going for a walk round the local Botanical gardens this morning and if the rain holds off another walk round the local small lake. Rain is forecast late afternoon and for the next 10 days except Sunday, but I doubt it will be heavy if it happens at all. Temperatures are back to normal at around 21 degrees. Have a good day all
