Yes Kev. I shan't press you for the type. It's a Pelton Wheel. Tradition tells us that it was invented by a farmer who noticed that if a powerful jet of water hit a cow's nose it forced its head upwards....

It must have been a trend or fad in Barlick at one time as there is one in trunk on the left banking just after the reservoir coming back to Barlick just past Wood End. I drove past it every day for 10 years or so.
