open valve up if water out boiler full, if no water , fill boiler until water comes out. its an alternative to sight glasses

Yes Tom! It is the syphon which bolts to the front of the boiler and supplies the gauge with live steam whilst protecting it from condensate because that is trapped in the internal syphon in the casting.
Now we need another object.....

I think I can see where you were going with that one Kev. No it isn't but I think you have latched on to a key attribute of the object.... It can have something inserted in it and clamped securely.... Question is what?
