Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
I found this image in a book I bought on stationary steam engine management. I was intrigued so I went digging. It was a steel sailing ship built in 1895 at Nantes and was originally named 'General Mellinet'. Sold later to Norway and renamed Gunvor.

In the days when I was into serious snapping I loved using this Nikkor 13mm wide angle lens. It produced perfectly square images if you got the angles right. The most impressive lens I ever used. A good second hand example would cost £3,500 today.....

When I was young we swore by Lintox tonic for dogs but it doesn't exist now. I don't know what was in it but it was good stuff!
The modern use of the Term Lintox applies to a powerful insecticide used on large beasts.

The security tower was still there in 2023 but it's all gone now as well as the old mill building, just a blank brownfield massive slab of concrete. I always thought they would have kept the tower.

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
In the late 1980s we had one of the last classic Series 3, 4.2 litre, XJ6 Daimler Sovereigns. We never had any trouble with it, nothing ever failed, it ran really well. All except for one time when we broke down on a main junction in Blackburn. I phoned the RAC and the man came quickly but couldn't figure out what was wrong so he brought in a trailer and hauled the car back to our home in High Wycombe. We always used a car mechanic who was a good friend and familiar with classics. He pinpointed the problem straight away and had choice words to describe the RAC man. The XJs had dual fuel tanks, one in each rear wing, and a switch on the dashboard to change tanks. We knew there was plenty of fuel in both tanks but the switch had failed and cut off the fuel altogether!

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
We insured our classic cars with a specialist which was always much cheaper than standard insurance because they know owners of classics are careful and don't want to damage their cars!
Incidentally, a lady I know whose husband worked at the ROF in Chorley has just stopped driving and sent back her licence. She's 90 and bright as a button but says she now finds other drivers are too dangerous. She was unsure about it at first but now says she feels liberated and that it was a good decision! (Reminds me of you but you stopped earlier.)

Re: FORGOTTEN CORNERS
Yes, that was why I chucked my licence into touch. I had stopped trusting the other drivers on the road. I have never regretted it.

Martha's house in Northfield. Round about 2000 Martha and Roger told me about wanting to remove the old lead paint from their house in such a way that it could be recycled and removed from the environment. I said the only way to do that was with a scraper and heat gun and do it by hand. I ended up scraping the whole house for them and it was spread over five years. It was a big job and I doubt if anyone else ever did it!
